The RAC Foundation have today (29 June 2000) launched a report to encourage telecommuting to help reduce traffic on the UK roads. (The RAC is one of the major automobile associations in the UK) It is good to know that reports like this are getting media coverage and promoting working at home. Coverage like this helps more employers to consider flexible ways of working.
Snippets of this report can be found on the following websites:
Excite - focusing on the use of Motorway Service Stations offering teleconferencing and meeting facilities to reduce traffic jams.
BBC - which says "Report statistics show that within a decade, working from home could cut commuting by 15%, while internet shopping could reduce car trips by another 10%. The government should be doing more to promote teleworking, says the RAC Foundation, as the savings to the economy could reach nearly £2bn a year."
And Sky News are discussing it this morning (Thursday 29 June 2000). Congratulations to Alan Denbigh of the TCA for putting forward the case for telecommuting on the early morning news.
