  • Apologies! This site was down about 5.30pm GMT on Monday 4 December until the afternoon of Wednesday 6 December. Depending on where you were in the world some people were still able to access the site for a few minutes or so at a time! This is a very unusual occurrence for Homeworking.com and the engineers have worked hard to sort the problem. We have been assured this would not happen again. I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused to all our visitors. - Editor

  • Did you know that in Europe the buzz word is e-work rather than teleworking or telecommuting? I was invited to be a Keynote Speaker at the e-work 2000 awards yesterday in Brussels. It was a fascinating day and a great opportunity to spread the message of Homeworking.com The main part of my speech was to encourage the e-work industry to put the e-worker (includes many homeworkers) at its focus rather than concentrating on just the technology. It is not easy working at home and requires certain qualities and skills, not to mention the lack of work, but for too long too much emphasis has been put on just the technology. Read more about it on our Events Page.

  Wednesday 17 October 2000:

  • On Friday 13th October, following 2 days of difficulties with the free Forum service provider, the whole Forum suddenly 'disappeared'. To this date we have not been able to establish contact with the Forum providers.
  • Plans were already being considered to move to a better system for managing the Forum. The saddest part is that all the wonderful, informative and generous messages everyone had posted to each other have been irretrievably lost. There were thousands of messages over the last year since the Forum started with a lot of valuable information and these are all gone.
  • On Wednesday 17 October, after some very long days, the new Forum system is up and running. We have bought the upgraded version of this Forum and the whole service and all messages are hosted on our own server - we now have full control. Including not having to accept some of the advertising that came with the old service.
  • A number of the old messages, which we had archived, were included in the new Forum together with some recent threads and messages which had been copied by members of the homeworking community. Many thanks to you all.

  • Discussion of a European Currency in The Euro - Do we really need it? which is new in our Soap Box is relevant to homeworking. As we run our businesses from home, wherever that may be in Europe, the Euro is already a reality. Business is carried out in Euros and work is bartered for in Euros. This article speaks out about the consequences. [Please note that as with all items on the Soapbox the views expressed are those of the writer and not necessarily of Homeworking.com]
  • Using Belief for Success and how can believing in something or someone, cause things to happen?

  Friday 22 September 2000:

  • Case Study of The Teleworking PA is new to our Case Studies of Homeworkers. We are delighted to include this Case Study as it further shows the variety of jobs that can be carried out from home.
  • Details of the SoHo Shows 2001 are now available.
  • The Truth about Dorling Kindersley Family Learning is new in our Soap Box. Read about this seemingly 'silent story' written by an ex-Marketing Co-ordinator.

  Monday 18 September 2000:

  • Menu bar added to the Forum to aid navigation.

  Friday 15 September 2000:

  • The Classifieds are now in 4 sections and has a self-employment section. This will include ads for self-employed activities such as network marketing and some affiliate schemes. In conjunction with this is the new self-employed Board on the Forum which as well as talking about specific self-employed issues also has a thread for each of the advertisers. This is to discuss any queries or issues around that particular self-employment activity.

  • Editor's Comment
The upside of the UK 'fuel crisis' is that more employers will look towards flexible ways of working including working at home. If a larger number of the workforce were enabled to work from home then employers would gain so much from increased productivity and employees would have lower stress and use less of their earnings on travel costs. Transport problems and pollution would also be reduced.   Employers Info

  Tuesday 12 September 2000:

  • In the Case Studies of Homeworkers you will now find the Networker of Excel Communications Inc. Sue and Tom are US based and have been involved in this Netork Marketing for over 4 years.
  • Classifieds have been updated and re-formatted to make it much easier and clearer with a view to promoting the Homeworkers who are available for work rather than just saying "Jobs Wanted". A new section for Self-Employed will be coming soon.

  Monday 11 September 2000:

  • IT Support for the Isolated Homeworker This is a new Forum where your IT questions from email to HTML to disk space are answered. A new homeworker wrote to us:

"On a more serious note, do you get much feedback from other homeworkers on IT issues? I think this has been the biggest shock for me. When you're office-based and/or part of a bigger company, it's so easy to rely on the IT support team. It's a very different story when you are the IT support team! I just wondered. Experiencing this first hand has certainly shown me a side to homeworking that I hadn't realised existed."

This is so true and a very real problem. For those homeworkers who have an employer then the employer needs to provide this support. Meanwhile those homeworkers who are not teleworkers/telecommuters do not have a support team to call upon.

We have a lot of skills both within the Homeworking.com team and from many of the readers of the Forum. If you have an IT problem then post your question/problem in this Board and between us we may be able to help you or direct you in the right direction.

When you post your question just start a new thread and try to make the topic name as clear as possible. That way it will be easy to refer back to that thread at a later date.

I hope you make use of this Board and find it useful to you in your work at home.

  Tuesday 5 September 2000:

  Friday 1 September 2000:

  • Our Review of the AllAdvantage Affiliate Scheme for Pay-as-you-surf has been updated with our earnings and an overview of the new Sweepstakes scheme.
  • Over the last week we have had new members added to our Rogues' Gallery. As well as being able to have a peek at their piccies we find out more about the homeworking experiences and aspirations of some of our visitors. A great (and quick) read!

This site will be continually updated, and welcomes any feedback to admin@homeworking.org
