- Following the UK budget in 1999, the Contributions Agency (for National Insurance) transferred to the Inland Revenue on 1st April 1999. This means that tax and National Insurance Contributions now come under one umbrella organisation. If you are self-employed you will need to arrange your own National Insurance contributions. Info from: www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/nic/index.htm or from your local job centre or DSS office.
- If you are self-employed in the UK with small earnings then you may want to go directly to this page which also looks at being self-employed in your spare time. [Please note that these government sites seem to be very slow to download at the moment.]
