| e-work Awards 2000 - Conference and Awards Ceremony Friday 3 November 2000 |
e-work Week (formerly European Teleworking Week) 30th October - 7th November 2000
 |
e-Work Week (eW˛) is unique in its approach to informing citizens and organisations of the benefits and issues of introducing new working practices. It instigates and coordinates events across Europe designed to improve the understanding of work in the Information Society. It is supported by the European Commission, Industry, Administrations, and many other organisations. More information can be found on www.etw.org |

| ~ Caroline Tresman ~ |
The e-Work Awards are given annually to organisations within Europe that represent examples of best practice in the introduction, development and promotion of new working practices developing within the Information Society.
Like last year (see below for the winners of the 1999 Awards) the final ceremony was held at the Sodehotel in Brussels on Friday 3 November. The event was well attended with representatives from all around Europe. Amongst the introductory speakers was Homeworking.com's very own Caroline Tresman (Founder and Editor) who talked about "Life, the universe and the e-worker!" Her talk focused on putting technology into perspective as 'just a tool', the difficulties of finding work, employers attitudes to remote working and the qualities a person working at home needs and the support needed.
Other speakers included representatives from the European Commission and technology industries. The general mood was of moving away from a restricted view of teleworking to one that was more inclusive hence the term "e-work". This refers to the growing electronic and information age which allows work to be more flexible in time and place, whether one is paid by an employer to work from home, self-employed, running your own business or whatever!
The rest of the day was given over to presentations from the finalists in each of the categories. All of the finalists had to give their presentations in English, which for many, is not their first language. Special congratulations to those who had this extra hurdle to cope with. It was a wonderful day, great networking and worth the effort of attending. Why don't you get more involved next year? (See our Forum Media/News section for informal feedback about the e-work awards day)

| Congratulations to Telework 2000 on their conference held 13-15 September 2000 in London. This conference coincided with the UK fuel crisis which undoubtedly helped bring alternative ways of commuting to the public attention. |

| Winners of the 1999 European Telework Awards |
In 1999, six awards were given to examples of excellence based on Telework in the following areas:
26 candidates from 10 different countries in Europe submitted proposals for the evaluation by a panel of experts on the 24th of September 1999. As a result a short list of 3 contenders in each category was announced on the final day of the “European Assembly on Telework”in Aarhus (Denmark). The three highest rated contenders in each category were invited to attend the Awards Ceremony in Brussels and asked to prepare a short 5 minutes presentation on their project. The ceremony took place in Sodehotel in Brussels on 5th November.
