Hello. Since I made my first post I've been researching the Websites for Writers site that Man Friday mentioned. Many of these sites require a subscription - Write this Moment and Writer's Residence to name just two. Does anyone have any experience/opinion of such sites - in view of the fact that you advise not to pay for some services. Or is that different? Also does anyone have any experience/views on Triond, Elance and Craiglist? I'd be grateful for any help. Thanks. Queenie |

Queenie Hi Money is usually only being asked to pay for courses on creative writing. Given your profile I would have thought a course was the last thing you needed. If you are selling your work you should not have to pay someone to sell it for you. Can you clarify what you mean by "Require a Subscription" MF |

I always advise the new writers that I mentor to stay away from any outlay of cash. Personally, as a long-time writer and teacher, chose to purchase a subscription from a writing site. It allows access to "secret" information for members only. I will not renew this membership. I have written for Triond. They are a writing site that produces residual income. In other words, writing on a popular topic that attracts Google ads will give Triond a commission each month. Triond gives the writer a percent of that commission. They do not pay a flat fee up front for your writing effort. Elance is a rather high-class bidding site, but if you want freelance writing opportunities to bid, you will need to pony up some cash. I have a free membership and it is NOT lucrative. Craigslist does have some hidden gems, which you will find with lots of digging. You also must take care to you avoid some of the pitfalls that recently have made Craigslist infamous. My advice is to join a writer's forum or the site for professionals, LinkedIn. They have a forum for every career possible, especially Freelance Writing. There is no fee to join. However, you must post an honest profile because they do check you out! Hope that helps a bit! |
