Hello. I’m new to the Forum but not new to working from home. I’ve never belonged to a Forum of any sort before, so please let me know if I make any crashing mistakes (I have read the rules and browsed the site, but … you never know). Apologies in advance if this post is too long. I’ve been a professional writer and copywriter for years initially in agencies and then as a freelance. For the past ten years I have concentrated on writing novels and have just completed a book for children, which is about to go to my agent. During that time I have paid the mortgage, just, by the odd copywriting job or work in an ad agency. Three years ago, I branched out into research working through a friend’s company for a well-known supermarket. Mostly food related but also including consumers, customer service etc. While praying for my books to sell (it’s dire out there) I need to find a fresh source of income. In spite of my experience, I am new to getting work in this way. I have previously worked for clients through recommendation or contacts. But they have either retired or their businesses have been taken over. I am passionate about writing and editing and would welcome advice on how to find work in those fields. I’d also welcome advice about creating a website. I have one, which I wrote and illustrated, (see my profile) but a friend did the technical whizzy bits. A word about editing. I have never thought of myself as a professional editor - it took me a long time to realise that I spend my entire time editing when I’m writing. That said, I am not a proof-reader. To give some idea of my skills and passions. I love taking an unwieldy piece of work and tidying it up and putting it into good, clear English. I love doing internet research. I love writing ‘blurbs’ for books. In essence, I just love writing. And editing. I have very strong organisational skills and am very practical. I recently I edited a couple of dissertations for a Spanish friend, an MA student. I would like to do more of this type of work. However, since this field is new to me I would really appreciate some advice as to how to go about it and how to receive and safeguard payment. Just to finish off. What happened to Homeworking.biz? Did it morph into the Internet Homeworking Directory or is that a completely different enterprise? I look forward to hearing from anyone who’d like to help and hope I may be able to help out at some time, though as yet I’m not sure how. Queenie.
