Hi everyone, I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, chronic migraine and Meniere's Disease, and am now looking to work from home, as my illness means that I cannot work outside my home. In a previous life I was a Practice Manager for a firm of solicitors, and prior to that ran a very successful secretarial agency for many years with my mother, who is sadly no longer with us. I have trawled through many websites looking for work, and have come to a brick wall with all of them, either because they appear to be "scams", or because they simply don't pay any money. This site seems to be a really helpful one, and I wondered if any of the forum members could point me in a direction where I might find some useful employment. I have vast experience of all kinds of secretarial and administration work, am well versed in all Office applications, and am very computer literate. My hobbies are genealogy, politics and literature. Can anyone help? I am trying very hard not to become depressed, but I can feel myself sinking a little.
Thank you for your time.

Connie

Wow! You are certainly well equipped as the actress said to the bishop.

With your skill I am sure that you will be able find employment from home either as a Virtual Assistant or a specialist article writer on Genealogy poliltics and lit.

I am not totally au fait with the ins and outs of gaining employment in this way but there are folk on the forum who will be able to point you in the right direction.

It may take a few days for someone with the necessary expertise to get back to you but I am pretty sure that someone will.

Well done you for rising above your illness and good luck

Man Friday

Connie,

Sink no further, please! I echo Man Friday that your skills, interests and experience are excellent and speak well of you as an interesting person. I know I can help you, but not until I have an opening (April 5) in my mentoring group of potential workers that have come to this FORUM for help.

Meantime, when you are searching for work at home, please use the word "freelance" or "freelancer" followed by one of these: paid writer, work online, earning online, writer jobs, data entry jobs, virtual assistant work, project management, etc. I'm sure you get the picture. You have a better chance of avoiding scammers and spammers when you proceed in this fashion.

I hope this helps just a bit until I can concentrate some quality time with you. PM me by clicking the bold blue print to the left which takes you to the Private Message area. Send me your email address with your first and last name.

I look forward to your comments and observations from any searches you conduct.
Best regards,
Julie

Thank you all for your help and advice. I have been searching in the areas you describe, and have signed up on a couple of sites, but as yet no work.
If anyone can help me at all, I am still looking for any ideas. Julie, I look forward to hearing from you when you have time.

Hi
It might be a good idea to check out some sites that print articles on subjects you are comfortable with I googled Articles on Politics Literature and Genealogy and came up with a few here are just some of them

http://www.articlecity.com/articles/politics_and_government/
http://www.politicspolitical.com/
http://www.magportal.com/c/soc/intl/
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/?o_iid=22148&o_lid=22148&offerid=0%3a21318%3a0
http://www.literaturearticles.com/

Ancestry and Literature article sites may be teaching your granny to suck eggs but the way in which information is presented may be of value in itself

Until work turns up: And it will. You might want to set aside a few hours a day to polish up your research and writing skills or at any rate keep them alive.

I know, because I have been there, finding a job is a job in itself. Try sending a letter to a local or National newspaper. Plenty of scope for informed political comment in the run up to the General Election. It will boost your morale no end to see your name in print even though you probably will not get paid.

If you have a filing cabinet why not label some folders as follows
Art; Celebrities; Cinema; Science; Politics; Religion; The Stage etc etc etc.
Every time you find a snippet file it accordingly.

If you have MSOffice One Note then use this instead of the filing cabinet (Works just as well) in fact maybe better given the search capabilities in modern laptop computers.

Information is at the very core of what makes life tick in the 21st Century. The is true tenfold if you are working from home and at least part of your activity is gleaned from writing.

Let me say once again: Work will come of that I am pretty sure

ConnieMay, please try not to be impatient. Even in the world of conventional jobs it is not very often that the right thing turns up on day one, and quite frequently not even on month one.
While we do try to be helpful on this forum - and I note there are some very helpful posts already - it has to be remembered that we are using our own experiences and ideas, and quite possibly not every member of the forum has even read your first posting yet, so there could well be more to come. Also one has to remember that nobody on Homeworking.com is paid to be here. As I said before, do try to be a bit patient. The answer to your quest could be in the next posting (but no guarantees).

Connie,

I will be able to send you an email within the next day or so. Everything is running on schedule at the moment and I think I mentioned April 5 in a past post.

Hang in there, Girl!

I am really sorry if I have given the impression that I was being impatient or ungrateful in any way. I was actually trying to put together a little "thank you" for all the help and advice I had received thus far, but unfortunately my message seems to have been poorly worded [not a good start for my fledgling career]!. I therefore apologise, and absolutely appreciate everyone is giving their time and help pro bono. I will try to word any further messages properly! Thank you all.

Christine

Not a bit of it. COnsidering what is happening in your life, I think you are entitled to a little anxiety. And if that spills over into a little impatience then that's fine with me.

Your life is in the process of being turned upside down. Personally I did not get the impression that you were in any way ungrateful.

I am sure that things will turn out well, may take a little time of course, but as my Mother used to say (Before she gave me a slap on the ear) Rome wasn't built in a day...

Why do parents say that do you suppose? I mean my mother never visited Italy in her life..Sheesh!
