I am so glad that the ads in the free magazines in Job Centres are being looked at! They take the ads in good faith .... and asked whether they would vet them from now on .... they say they would. Hmm. I'd be interested in anyone's views on this programme. Caroline (Tresman) Founder and Editor Homeworking.com

Kallimera (cottages) David Breach (Delta Data - envelope stuffing) Ibrahim Shevket (I S Trading - envelope stuffing) Amazingly they got Breach and Shevket to allow them in to film them at home and answer questions but didn't get a second chance when they had further questions. The creating and painting cottages was a farce from beginning to end. Oh, and they visited a mailing company that specialises in stuffing envelopes - by machine. Everything said on the programme can be found on this website, but of course it is good to get such programmes out to raise public awareness. We have even had someone on the Forum tell us about the dodgy "homeworking" ads on the Job Centre website which our member informed the Job Centre and had it removed. Maybe a year or so ago now. I live in Scotland but managed to see the programme on BBC England on Sky. Those living in Scotland or those with Sky will have a chance to see it again next Tuesday at 8.30 pm. As for the member of Jobcentre staff promising us that they will vet those magazine adverts in future I wouldn't hold my breath. From past experience Jobcentre staff couldn't care less about you, don't lift a finger to help you, and treat the unemployed as "scroungers". As I mentioned in an earlier post, I saw a similar advertisement in a mystery shopping forum. |

Thanks for the info of when the programme is repeated. Drever, you took the words out of my mouth when it comes to holding one's breath. I am cynical on that point. Publications make money from accepting advertising and have an ethical by-pass when it comes to it. For anyone tempted by such adverts here is an article I wrote years ago that still stands. It starts off:
quote:Homeworking Scams are easy and fun to spot - providing you haven't fallen for one Homeworking scams feed off our need to believe that there has to a better way of earning money. Some scams just promise a few extra quid whilst others promise riches and the millionaire lifestyle from stuffing envelopes, to some 'brainless' scheme involving email, to your very own shopping mall website. In a way, it is easier to be sucked into the smaller scam requiring only your £5 or £10 or £30 because you feel you have less to lose and hopefully much to gain. Scams involve a clever use of psychology. This is where the fun bit comes into it, but only if you are feeling strong enough to resist! When you see something promoting some unbelievable homeworking opportunity together with pictures of sunset beaches and promises of a 'residual income' or 'Earn £20,000 per month' or even just 'Earn a bit extra' then take a deep breath, make yourself a cup of tea and sit back and read what they have to say. Look at the language they use, the superfluous use of prose and the exclamation marks galore. See how the advert gradually draws you into feeling that this must be a great way to earn money. After a while you get a nose for these things and will see the same scams dressed up in different ways....

Don't tell me Shevket is still going! He has the distinction of being the first person to con me about 12 years ago. Ended up with him telling me that if I didn't stop hassling him to get my £20 back he'd take me to court and make sure I lost my house:-) I suggested that he contact my solicitor. I never got the £20 back, but I'm still in the house and somewhat wiser now. |

It is a very sad fact that people like Shevket are still going and still doing what they do. Even sadder is that we have to pussy-foot around them and not openly accuse anyone of anything. Caroline (Tresman) Founder and Editor Homeworking.com

Caroline Hi Have no fear..I think it was all said a couple of years ago when Craig and I had a difference of opinion vis a vis the concept of Marketing. as opposed to the act of selling. My temptation is on a very long lead, my will power is working overtime..I am, as it were in cease-fire condition While I am in typing mode anyway..Did you see Old Dogs New Tricks last night..An investigation into schemes that promise unlimited earnings working from home If any of our forum members are with a certain TV provider that allows you to re watch TV progs after the event...Then definitely worth the viewing MF |

Great program reminded people that you cannot make a fortune (or probably an income) painting cottages or gettings lists of names etc; wonder if Esther has seen the views on this forum about such scheme? Meantime, whilst she may talk about and guide people once in a blue moon let's thanks Caroline et al for their great work on this forum guiding and helping ordinary people to find legitimate income sources and advice from home |

On behalf of everyone, thank you! I think I should move this and the last two messages to the Media Topic where I had already commented on the programme. The programme makers were in contact with me about the making of this programme and are more than familiar with this Forum. Earlier on I was even scheduled to be interviewed for the programme about the real homeworking alternatives but as anyone who has seen that programme knows, they just didn't have time to include the other side of things. Just keeping you on your toes! Sorry about that. The messages from Manfriday's of 04:47pm down, were posted on another Topic elsewhere in the Forum and moved here. I came across two interesting comments during my searches :- 1. Never pay to join any setup and 2. Just about every employer already has a waiting list so would not need to advertise. Doesn't stop me from searching. I normally scroll to the bottom of the web page to see if any payment facility is displayed before wasting time reading all the bumf.} |
