Among sites already established is the more simply named Homeworking.com, edited by Caroline Tresman of Borehamwood, Herts. She says: "Homeworking is becoming a buzz-word as more people are looking for better ways of working, and this site offers a wide range of information from homeworking insurance to teleworking, to finding the right slot for each individual."
Its case studies feature interviews with internet librarians, market researchers and homeworkers engaged in everything from adult fashion to mail order condoms.
The site also contains a forum for the exchange of information and support between experienced homeworkers and new ones. The classified section provides low-cost advertising of jobs and services for and by homeworkers while the job search section looks for home-based jobs. It also has a step-by-step debt advice section for people who turn to homeworking because they have money problems.

Don't be a commuter - stay at home with a computer
Extract from: Teleworking has such a lot of advantages - so why aren't more of us doing it? asks Elisabeth Mahoney
It needn't be all lonesome on the homeworking front though. With increasing numbers of people working in this way and the trend bound to increase as technology in the home becomes more familiar, there is help on-hand, on-line.
Caroline Tresman editor of www.homeworking,com found a dearth of good advice on the Internet when she first began working from home. "The idea is to provide quality advice for free to the ordinary person thinking about homeworking. It's important to remember that many people turn to this way working not because it's the best way for them to work but because they have money problems. Instead of dealing with their debt they get involved in homeworking scams which end up taking money off them. We encourage them to deal with their finances first and we have a debt consultant providing advice." |
